We hope you enjoyed your weekend, and took some time to remember 9-11. Craig and I ended up at Mission BBQ for lunch where they were hosting a wonderful event for all police, fire, first responders and armed services folks. Every day at noon they stand and sing the Star Spangled Banner. Yesterday they had the color guard from Alfonso HS along with a service member singing the Anthem for us all. We love to see the support for our dedicated folks!
A note from Larry and Barbara Blakely…
Larry and Barbara would like to thank everyone who participated in the 9-11 observance rides.
We had 8 bikes on the “Ride to a ride” on Sat where some continued with the larger group to the Veteran’s Memorial Park for ceremonies and lunch. For those that missed the AmVets “setting of the table” you missed a very moving tribute POWs/MIAs and their families. The ceremony concluded with a 21-gun salute and taps.
On Sunday we filled the front of the Tampa HD parking lot for the 9-11 Memorials Ride. Many chapter members assisted with lining up the bikes, registration, and overall “herding the cats”. Our chapter had 15 bikes and 22 participants. New Port Richey HOG joined us with a group as well. Overall we had over 60 bikes total with over 70 participants. The Patriot Guard provided a number of bikes with flags which we staged at the front of the group. We arrived at the first memorial stop at the HCSO with minimal gaps in the group. The Tampa Firefighter’s Museum provided a nice respite with air conditioning, water and an overview of their memorial. Some participants also accepted the invitation to visit the large fire station across the street for a tour. For lunch the group split up with 20+ participants going to The Brick House and others continuing to alternate locations.
We had two people join the chapter during registration while other members brought friends and family as well. Great job everyone. Thank you for the teamwork and leading the way.
A special thank you to Larry and Barbara to all the work and coordination in getting these together.
